News from the President:

I hear you had a great rally at Rifle Gap State Park.  I  was sorry I could not attend but  family outings came first.   Special thanks to the Dickson's and Martin's for hosting the rally.

Roger Martin has agreed to chair the nominating committee and is  beginning to work on leadership positions for 2010 and 2011. We sure would like to have some of you fine people step forward to lead this great club. If you have any desire and or any questions before you make a decision please contact me:

Roger Martin @243-2280 or martinrandj@acsol.net

Keep in mind we cannot be an FMCA chapter if we do not have a full slate of officers.  TIME TO VOLUNTEER YOUR TIME AND YOUR SKILLS!

I am still exploring ways to share our rally pictures.  Don Burr had an idea but I have not had time to check it out.  I do not have pictures for this months newsletter.  Diana

July Rally Report

Seven units and fourteen people gathered for friendship, fellowship and relaxation at Rifle Gap July 8 – 10.  As usual, there was plenty of food and other refreshments and all felt comfortably satisfied.  Triplett’s provided tours of their new View motorhome, a very compact yet spacious unit, one that will be easy to maneuver and provide them with many hours of traveling and rallying plus 17 miles to the gallon of fuel.  Several of us explored the region of Rifle Falls and north into the beautiful mountains and forests.   Others traveled across the dam and north past the correction’s center.  We experienced a full array of weather from bright and warm sun, to wind, to rain and light hail with cool refreshing nights.  We may have been slightly shy in numbers but we were mighty long in fun and fellowship.  Sorry you couldn’t make it, we missed you.   Dale

August Rally will be at Blue Mesa RV Ranch  in Gunnison.

Our next chance to get away from the sizzling Grand Valley summer and be with the Rovers is August 10, 11, and 12th at Blue Mesa Ranch. Lance Loken, Manager at BMR, has the welcome mat out for us! Those using the special rally fee of $25.00 per night just show up at the gate and identify yourselves as Western Slope Rovers.

Please mail your rally fee of $7.00 per person to Roger Martin as soon as possible. Our treasurer usually does this but the Huffs will be on a tour to Alaska.

There's a fun time for all at the August Rally at the Blue Mesa Ranch.  Dates are 10, 11, and 12.  There will be a variety of activities that  members can enjoy.  There are riding stables at Blue Mesa Ranch, hiking trails in abundance, ghost towns, miniature golf, shopping in Gunnison, boat rentals, and a MORROW POINT BOAT TOUR.

The boat tour involves taking a boat ride into the Black Canyon of the Gunnison.  Join a park ranger for a leisurely 1 1/2 hour boat tour on the Morrow Point Reservoir. While you travel, you will learn about geology, wildlife, early inhabitants, narrow-gauge railroads, dams and reservoirs.  The ranger has suggested that we register in advance for the 10:00 a.m. tour.  The fee is $16 for adults or if you have a Senior or Access pass, the fee is $8.00.  There are some physical challenges.  We will walk down 232 stairs and then enjoy a 3/4 mile scenic walk to the boat dock.

If you are interested in this tour, please contact one of the committee, the Boyds, the Martins, or the Trinkleins by August 4th.  You will need to pack a lunch and take lots of water.

WESTERN SLOPE ROVERS

Minutes - April 15, 2010

The FMCA Chapter of the Western Slope Rovers met for their first business meeting of the year at the club house, Village at Country Creek.  After a get acquainted game, Diana Crocker, President called the meeting to order.  We said the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. The minutes from the October meeting were read by Marjorie Wulff, Secretary.  They were approved and seconded.

Diana introduced our newest members, Don and Linda Burr.  They all met in Casa Grande this winter.  The Burr’s also went to Farmington.

Dale Dickson, First Vice President announced we need a host for the July and September rallies.  Millie Gentilin stated that she and Art and Joann and Larry Huff were hosting the September rally.  The information for that rally was passed around.  That still leaves July without a host and no one has stepped up to fill that rally.

The scheduled rallies are as follows:

May, Fruita State park, hosted by the Johnson’s and Wulff’s.

June, Creede, CO, hosted by Ballensky’s and Diana Crocker.

July

August, Blue Mesa Ranch, hosted by Martin’s and Boyd’s

September, Delores, CO, hosted by Gentilin’s and Huff’s

Dusty Boyd passed around information about the Blue Mesa Ranch and told us all the things there was to do in that area.

Merlin Ballensky gave us information of the Creede rally and said we needed to make our reservations as soon as possible. We need at least 10 coaches to satisfy the RV Park.  Claudia passed around information on the Bayfield, CO campground.

We also have information on other chapters that we could join and share a rally if we want to.

Joann Huff, Treasurer, gave her report stating as of 10/1/09 we had   $2,495.74 on hand, with an income of $730.00, expenses $101.17, leaving a balance of $3,124.57.  Joann stated thanks to Roger Martin she is now banking on line and that saves us a $3.00 per month banking fee for a savings of $36.00 per year.

Old Business:

Diana stated that we need an Alternate National Director to be in compliance with the by-laws of FMCA.  Merlin explained the position and the duties of that position.

Diana also mentioned that our chapter received a Certificate of Appreciation for the work the chapter members did that attended the Farmington rally.

New Business:

All of the older members have chapter flags for their RV’s.  They were made by some of the member a few years ago and sold for $10.00.  The newer members do not have a flag.  Diana wanted to know if anyone had any ideas about getting more flags.  Margie Wulff suggested that if anyone knew a former member who has dropped out of the club and has a flag we could perhaps buy the flags back for the newer members.  No one has kept in touch with the former members.

Merlin Ballensky gave Don Burr a special hat as he is security for an RV park in the winter in Arizona.

Diana mentioned that the FMCA magazine has some very good information in it and we should all be reading it.  Also to cut out the MEDEX card and put it in your wallet in case you would need to contact them.  She also said that we, as members, have an accidental death benefit.

FMCA has many chapters and you can belong to more than one chapter.

The next national rally will be in Redmond, Oregon, August 11-14th.  At this point in time Jim Harding will be representing our chapter there.

If we can get 12 new members in a calendar year to join our chapter we will receive a nice gift packet from FMCA.  They have chosen to do this instead of giving us gifts to give away at our rallies.

Joann Huff stated that she is now collecting the $7.00 per person fee for the May rally.  Margie Wulff explained the May rally that is to be held May 4, 5 & 6th at Fruita State Park.

Now we are back to needing an Alternate National Director and Don Burr, our new member, said he would accept the position, however, with the raising gas prices he would not be willing to go the rally in Oregon.  Merlin Ballensky made a move to accept Don Burr in this position and it was seconded by Dale Dickson.  The vote was unanimous.

Javine Martin told us that members, Sarah and Elgin Mallory, were on their way to Denver so Elgin can have surgery to remove his kidney.  Elgin will have to be on dialysis for the rest of his life.

Martin Essman, a former member, has had serious health problems and we were informed he is going to therapy and doing well, but not able to drive the motor home.

The meeting was adjourned.

Respectfully submitted,

Marjorie Wulff,

Secretary
